Heelys for adults
I see kids rolling around in those shoes with the wheels in the back. I remember when I was a kid I always wished my shoes had wheels in them. Now all the little brats in my neighborhood are rolling around in the wheel-heeled shoes.
Kids also get video games in the back of the car. I remember back at the ’88 or ’89 Detroit Auto Show GM had a concept car that had a 8-bit Nintendo in the back. I saw that and promised myself that if I could ever get a car with a TV and video games in the back I would buy it. Now all cars have options for games or you can buy kits to install them. What a world we live in.
Now I’m just waiting for the hoverboard from Back to the Future II. When that comes out my life will be complete.
SanDisk Sansa Connect with ZING
An old co-worker stopped by the office and showed us this Sandisk Sansa Connect MP3 player. It has wifi and connects to open access points and the Yahoo! Music service (formerly Launch). It finds and suggests new music as you rate songs through the Yahoo! interface. Whenever it gets a chance it uses spare cycles to download more songs to the available memory.
The device is probably about the size of an iPod mini but it has a noticeably Sansa feeling to it.
It appears to deliver on its promises so this could prove to be an interesting iPod alternative.
Nokia 770 internet tablet
I saw a Nokia 770 internet tablet on clearance at a CompUSA going out of business in Michigan. It was $180. It is a squarely aimed early-adopter types in the market for small chap and almost useless internet devices. In other words, me.
Anyway, I was pretty close to buying the tablet as an impulse-buy but I thought better of it and decided to wait until the Nintendo Wii is more readily available. It turns out to be a good thing that I did not buy the Nokia 770. It got pretty mediocre reviews from various places including Walter Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal. He seems to be a pretty respectable guy (The only problem I have with Mossberg is his excessive Apple loving). Also there is a newer model — the Nokia N800 — that is faster and cooler than its predecessor. Of course.
