The finance guy at the Toyota dealership was pushing a pre-paid maintenance plan on me while he was setting up insurance and registration for me. He quoted it at $1,275 for the 4 year plan: 8 minor, 2 intermediate, and 1 major service.

After some research I found that I can get the same service package for $875 via another Toyota dealer on the internet. It sounds suspicious but I will do more research into the matter.

OK, so saying that I would buy a Honda Fit in a previous blog I went with the Toyota Prius with package 2. It was the only package 2 they had left on the lot. I bought the car at City Toyota in Daly City, California for $25,500 out the door. Out the door means that is the price including California 8.25% tax, DMV registration, license plates, and any other fees.

I doubt I got the best price but at least I didn’t pay full sticker. The problem was that I did not do as much pricing research because I was distracted by the Fit. You should see the Edmunds Toyota Prius Prices Paid and Buying Experience forum. Lots of people post their deals.

For interested people MSRP was about $23,909. Extra dealer add-ons included door guards, wheel locks, and floor mats that theoretically should have cost ~$1,000. The full sticker price was quoted at $24,999 including DOC fee but not including tax.

My salesperson was a really nice guy from abroad. Apparently he has a PhD in chemical engineering from University of Oklahoma but can’t get a job these days because of age discrimination. That’s a sad commentary on the state of our employers. After speaking with him, he told me commissions are only $100 per car sold. They get bonuses based on performance and evaluations later. Interesting!

Despite significant poor play I finally finished Prestige 1 at 3d 16h 55m. Only 5 hours quicker than the beginner level. Not too good! The problem was I did not put much strategy into gathering the points. I think I’m pretty much satisfied with this so I’m not going to try to waste another 2 days of my life trying to level up any more.
