Weekend
How to cope with boredom over a weekend.
New Makin Day map in Call of Duty 5: Waw
A new Day version of the Makin map came with the latest game update for Call of Duty: World at War.
I kind of like it. The Makin Night map was always kind of fun because you couldn’t see shit but it also could be a very frustrating experience in poor ambient lighting conditions. For example if your screen gets washed out in daylight like mine does you can’t see shadows well at all. That makes for a high-death experience.
Other sweet stuff happened in the update:
in-game statistics! Finally you can see the number of headshots, your archrival, and your K/D spread. This has been sorely lacking since the game was released and I always loved the stat-keeping in Halo 3. It would be extra cool for more info about grenade kills, knife kills and so forth.
Developers report that they fixed the holes in the maps that will prevent glitchers! Those punk kids in the Castle and Roundhouse no longer can hide behind the clipping barriers below a map. It wasn’t clear if they fixed the issues for airborne “elevator” glitches.

Call of Duty: Word at War: How long did it take you to reach Prestige 1?
Here’s a question to you Call of Duty World at War people:
How many game hours (according to the CoD clock) did it take for you to get through the ranks and reach the first prestige?
What game modes do you play to earn the most experience points? I see that Headquarters, Team Deathmatch, and Free for All are the most popular of the regular “core” difficulty level.
As a below average player I’ve been playing 26+ hours and I’m only at level 52.
Camping for the Kentucky Derby
The 2008 Kentucky Derby is May 3, 2008. I’m planning to go there with some old college buddies. Since the Derby is 2 weekends from now hotel prices in the area are astronomical. As such we’ve decided to be a little adventurous and we will try to camp somewhere in Kentucky for nights (Friday and Saturday) around the derby area. By camp I mean tent or cabin not RV. Most of the “camp” sites I have seen thus far are for RV camping.
Look at a Google Map of the Campgrounds listed below.
A basic Google search for “camping near Louisville, kentucky” does not yield many good results. However, after perusing various local chamber of commerce and Kentucky tourism websites I found Kentucky’s Derby Region. This appears to be Kentucky Camping Gold. I have yet to look it over in detail but they have a good list of campgrounds in Kentucky’s derby region
Some highlights include:
Indiana: solid alternative
Indiana has at least 2 large parks near Louisville that may provide a better value than the other campgrounds in Kentucky proper. These Indiana campgrounds are also closer to Louisville than some of the other sites in the list above!
I also noticed that West Point is somewhat near to Louisville. West Point has at least one promising camp site within 1 hr of Churchill Downs.
