Here we gout again
I’m 28 years old and I’ve got a minor case of gout. “Gout. Isn’t that for old people?” Yes it is, my friends. Yes it is.
Beans were the culprit this time. Apparently beans have the same gouty compounds as liverwurst. I got the beans from a work picnic last week. I took home essentially an entire party tray of leftover baked beans. We’re talking 2-3 servings of beans PER DAY for a week. After eating these beans for dinner (and sometimes lunch) every day for a week my body finally succumbed to the legume assault and gave me gout.
I say again because I had gout about 2 years ago the day of my high school best friend’s wedding. In the days/weeks leading up to the wedding I had been eating a lot of liverwurst sandwiches at work. A few nights before the wedding I had a few glasses of heavy duty red wine, cheese, and cured meats. All of the aforementioned items cause uric acid (or puric acid) to build up in your body. If you get too much buildup you get gout.
