Kites kick ass
If you’re bored on a decent weekend day, try flying a kite.
It’s pretty windy here in Daly City and I near a big county park so it was the perfect location for some kite flying. A couple weeks ago I bought a crappy TMNT graphic plastic kite from Fry’s in Palo Alto. It was $3.50 so no way to lose. Unfortunately I was trying to be lazy about flying my sweet TMNT kite and the thing flew off into a frickin’ tree like I was Charlie Brown or something. Nevertheless, I got a good hour or so of kite-flying action with that kite.
A couple weeks later I went to Chinatown to hoping to score a cheaper — but nylon — kite. The nylon is important here because I noticed the plastic TMNT kite I had was getting jacked up pretty bad from hitting the ground frequently. In Chinatown I found a traditional triangle shape nylon kite at one of the random junk stores there. Then a few doors down I came across the Chinatown Kite Shop on Grant near the Bank of America. An entire store that stocks only kites! The kites at Chinatown Kite Shop are pretty expensive but they sure did look a lot nicer than the $2.99 piece of crap I bought.
Both kites were awesome to fly. The only problem with both kites was that they tended to dive to the right. Unless the winds were just right the damn thing would just nose dive into the ground. Perhaps in a few days I write a HOW-TO on my beginner kite-flying techniques.
