MerchantCircle in Mtn View and Palo Alto, again.

After a particularly unproductive day at the office a co-worker and I decided to go for some drinks again in the greater Mountain View and Palo Alto area — again. Two days in a row! This time we decided to take a look around downtown Mountain View — big mistake for two guys in their late-20’s.

Pho Hoa is a chain Vietnamese restaurant on Castro Street. It offers mundane but serviceable pho and vermicelli. They’re kind of skimpy on the meat in the pho but not horribly priced at $6-9 per entree. As average as the place is, I wish we had something of this price point and mediocrity in downtown Los Altos.

Molly McGees or Mally Magee’s? I’m not sure what the spelling is. When we stepped into Molly’s Irish Pub it was an unassuming and relatively subdued Irish pub — just the way I like it. They have a patio out in the back that I would have liked to venture over to but it was crowded.

Unfortunately Molly’s is a pub with a dance floor — always a recipe for cheesy disasters. On this particular Friday night they were featuring classically cheesy 70’s and 80’s pop geared toward the late-30’s crowd. I knew we were in trouble the moment I saw the DJ: a slightly rotund balding man probably in his late-30’s or early-40’s. Lo and behold his opening song was “Brick House” by Rick James. Not a bad song in itself but in this environment it was fairly tragic for 2 guys under 30 to be there.

The crowd was generally a mix of what you could call MILFs(Mom I’d Like to Fuck) without the ILF qualifiers. I don’t know that much about Mountain View demographically but I can safely say I don’t want to be back there for a night of fun for at least 7-8 years at which time I will be ripe for the average approximate age of the crowd there. I’m now fairly confident that my decision to live in Daly City and commute to Los Altos is the correct one.

After bolting the hell out of Molly’s once the music started we headed back to the trustworthy Rose and Crown in Palo Alto for another round of $6 beers.

How not to get busted with pot in your car

Some former cop guy has a series of tips on how NOT to get busted if you are in possession of pot. Some interesting tidbits that I probably won’t ever need or try but an entertaining article nevertheless.

Daly City Fog Log

During the summer, Daly City is renowned for its fog. If possible I would like to keep track of how foggy it really is. Here is my estimate for the week thus far.

7/19 — I worked at home and a few hours of clear!
7/20 — pretty damn foggy
7/21 — patch of sunlight but mostly foggy
7/22 — totally foggy all day
7/23 — pretty damn foggy in the morning on the way to work
